SJA Forum mailing list

 swiss-japan@yahoogroups.com.

The SJA Forum  is a mailing list offering SJA members a way to interact, and share ideas with each other in the context of our association. Its use is reserved to members of the association.

Purpose of the SJA Forum

  1. Improve communication between the SJA members and facilitate contacts between them
  2. Create a forum to exchange information or post questions regarding Japan and Switzerland
  3. Create a bridge between our members in Switzerland and those in Japan
  4. Facilitate communication between the SJA Committee and the SJA members

How does the SJA Forum mailing list work?

Usage of the SJA Forum is reserved to members of the association. The SJA Forum Administrator will setup a mailing list account for all members who have communicated an email address to the SJA Committee. Membership allows to receive and post messages through the maling list at swiss-japan@yahoogroups.com.

Members may ask at any time to be removed from the SJA Forum mailing list recipients by sending an email to swiss-japan-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.

By default, members of the SJA Forum will receive messages one by one when they are posted. Members who prefer to receive a daily digest, in order to reduce the amount of messages they receive, may do so by contacting the SJA Forum Administrator. In this case however they will not be able to access attachments.

Usage guidelines and restrictions

The mailing list provider chosen for the SJA Forum is Yahoo! Groups. As such, usage of the SJA Forum mailing list is primarily regulated by the Yahoo! Privacy Policy, Terms of Services and Yahoo! Groups Guidelines.

In addition to the Yahoo! guidelines, we ask that all SJA members respect the SJA Forum Guidelines. The SJA Forum Administrator, in his sole discretion, may, after having notified the SJA Committee, suspend or terminate any mailing list account immediately and without notice if a member has acted inconsistently with the SJA Forum Guidelines. Please help us keep the SJA Forum an enjoyable, useful and positive experience.

What kind of content can you post?

The SJA Committe will use the SJA Forum to broadcast information to the SJA members for example:

  • Invitations to SJA events such as the General Assembly and the BBQs
  • Minutes from the General Assembly
  • Updates on activities performed by the Committee such as grants, STS courses at the EPFL, etc.
  • Information received by external contributors, for example  the Japanese Consulate

In addition, SJA members are encouraged to post messages on the SJA Forum (swiss-japan@yahoogroups.com) as long as they conform to the mailing list purpose, and respect the SJA Forum Guidelines. The following list shows a few examples of content in line with the purpose of the SJA Forum:

  • Notice of upcoming exhibitions, film festivals, TV shows in relation with Japan or Switzerland, and invitations to SJA members to meet on these occasions
  • Links to interesting websites regarding topics in relation with the goals of the SJA association, and more generally with Japan and Switzerland and their culture
  • References to books, articles, magazines, etc. in relation with Japan and Switzerland
  • Information regarding language courses, Japanese arts and sports
  • Questions in relation with living in or travelling to Japan or Switzerland (note: please reply to sender, and NOT to mailing list)
  • Relevant and important news from Japan or Switzerland (for Japanese members or Swiss members currently living in Japan)
